DREADMOOR Fishing Guide
The rod loop, three encounter types and what to do with a catch.

Fishing in DREADMOOR is a first-person, skill-based activity done from the trawler with a rod in hand. Three encounter types show up on the lagoon — standard fish, drag fish, and night species — and each catch can be sold, burned as fuel or broken down for materials.

Encounter types
Three encounter patterns show up on the open lagoon:
- Standard fish — wait for a bite, then run the standard reel-and-pause loop.
- Drag fish — the line must be dragged through the water to entice the catch before it engages.
- Night species — appear in the same zones after dark; same loop, but the rewards are higher and the threats are heavier.
Reading the water
Fishable locations are marked on the surface with fish-head icons and wheeling gulls. Pull up at a spot to reveal which species are available, then pick the right loop for that roster.
What to do with a catch
Catches feed three loops:
- Sell them to settlement traders for currency — rarer fish pay more.
- Burn them as boat fuel when a resupply is not close.
- Break them down for materials such as chromatic scales that feed upgrades.
Get the catch into the hold promptly. Fish left in open storage devour each other in DREADMOOR, so the cooler cycle matters as much as the cast.
Matching bait to the encounter
Bait is not bought ready-made; you assemble it at the workbench from gathered components, and every bait is tuned to a specific encounter. Picking the wrong bait is the fastest way to lose a fight to the fish. See the DREADMOOR best bait guide for how to match each assembly to the surface behaviour and the species in the roster.
